Turn a single 3-ft. long, 1×12 hardwood board into some small shelves to organize a desktop or counter. Cut off a 21-in. long board for the shelves, rip it in the middle to make two shelves, and cut 45-degree bevels on the two long front edges with a router or table saw. Bevel the ends of the other board, cut dadoes — grooves cut into the wood with a router or a table saw with a dado blade — cross-wise (cut a dado on scrap and test-fit the shelves first!). Then cut it into four narrower boards, two at 1-3/8 in. wide and two at 4 in.

My word of advice – always check the reviews! This applies to anything you spend money on. Personally, I check the reviews on almost everything. Do I want to see a movie with my family? I check the reviews. Do I want to try a new restaurant? I check the reviews. Am I buying a new book? You guessed it, I check the reviews! You get the point – always read what other people have to say before impulsively buying a product.
This was written when 1/2 inch plywood was actually 1/2 inch thick. Eight pages on the obsolete radial arm saw, but no mention of a miter saw or pocket hole jigs. Very little about the router and router table. Many descriptions of little used joinery techniques. Bottom line, this book is painfully outdated and lacks any real instructions of how to do woodworking with modern tools and lack of practical techniques. Hard to believe they have printed the same 30 year old stuff 19 times and keep selling it. Now I understand why there is no "Look Inside" feature. Very disappointed.

Our goals right now? There are a few directions things could go in the next month or two with the addition of new products, so we’ll have to wait and see. We may end up seeing a shift to more larger products now that we have space, and I really enjoy designing them. I’d like to see revenue go up 30-40% over the next year, but not too much more - I think slow growth is more manageable and it’s easier to run a business well and stay organized this way. As soon as my subcontractor gets near capacity, I’ll be looking for either another contractor or a part time employee. I am considering finishing my business degree over the next few years as well, so I’d like to keep my schedule flexible and not commit to fulltime employees just yet. A very long term vision for me is to bring furniture & decor makers in the maritimes together for an Eastern Canadian based online furniture shop - similar to Wayfair but smaller and higher quality. It’s pretty out there, but everyone needs a crazy idea in the back of their head, right?
Does having a disorganized shop stress you out? Does it stress out other members of your household (i.e., your wife)? One of the easiest ways to keep it organized is with Wall Control. Simply mount it to your wall and create space for all your hand and power tools. Stick with this setup and you’ll never misplace another tool or hear anyone ask when you’re planning to clean up the shop.
I see a lot of new entrepreneurs or students asking “What business should I start?” with no skills or interests to back up the question. Business isn’t all about passion, but you have to find something you’re good at and that you enjoy. Anyone can start a dropshipping business, but they’re a dime a dozen because of the low barrier to entry. If you develop knowledge in certain areas that others don’t have, that’s a big advantage.

The amount of wood items sold for this varies greatly. The same kinds of wood product lines, based on how they are made and sold, could be purchased for massively different prices. Business involves the material cost, their preferred hourly salary, and any marketing expenses, so if deciding how to price wood items. Having this formula on a spreadsheet simplifies your pricing.
