I never, ever, ever bother to write these things. But, I am so incredibly impressed with this product, that I feel compelled to. My six year old daughter LOVES IT, as does my almost four year old daughter. The hammer is just the right size, and it comes with enough pre-cut (good quality) wood for many projects. So far, they have made a house, car, and a plane-- all of which are far more aesthetically pleasing (to me, as a mom) than the plethora of junky plastic toys that seem to fill our home. We've used these projects both as math lessons (measuring the wood, counting the nails needed, learning about angles, reviewing shapes) and during arts & crafts time; but, with just a little creativity, they could be incorporated into just about any learning subject. For the amount of enjoyment we have received, thus far, this product is already worth the money spent, and we have several more projects to go! We will be buying another for little sister's upcoming birthday, most definitely.

Two for turners. Turners often develop needs and interests that are different than other woodworkers. Richard Raffan’s Complete Illustrated Guide to Turning offers one of the best overviews of the craft, as taught by a skilled artisan. As turners explore new ways to get a grip on different projects, they’ll appreciate Doc Green’s Fixtures and Chucks. This book explains how to get the most from commercial chucks, centers and faceplates and how to make your own.
Working on one side at a time, glue and nail the side to the back. Apply glue and drive three 1-5/8-in. nails into each shelf, attach the other side and nail those shelves into place to secure them. Clamps are helpful to hold the unit together while you’re driving nails. Center the top piece, leaving a two inch overhang on both sides, and glue and nail it into place. Paint or stain the unit and then drill pilot holes into the top face of each side of the unit and screw in the hooks to hold your ironing board. Mount the shelf on drywall using screw-in wall anchors.

It takes a lot of planning to discover zoning laws, tax laws, and ensuring everything is handled legally for the business. This sounds like a lot of headaches, but once these steps are done, and the creator can get down to the business of designing and building the products, the headaches cease and the joy of building the woodworking pieces brings to mind the reason to start the home-based woodworking business in the first place.
ah to sleep; perchance to dream!!! at this point i dream of BIG things, mostly waaayyyy over the $50.00 limit. Since we are bound to the amount i would choose plans from the Fine Woodworking Store. In particular the beds and tables category. As i already have sketch up downloaded to my laptop, i relish the time to be spent designing my own headboard and kitchen table. Getting the ACTUAL measurements from some of the plans would be greatly beneficial in producing projects i could be proud of. I wish to thank the staff for giving us the "bonus" posibility from the magazine.

A woodworking business can set itself apart from other wood shops by offering high-quality products at reasonable prices, and by educating customers about the crafting process. In-person conversations, pamphlets and even tags can be used to share with customers what work went into making a piece and why that piece is different from ones produced by competitors.
